Baptism at Holy Spirit Parish

Baptisms are generally celebrated on the first three Sundays of the month at 11:00am and 11:45am in Holy Spirit Parish Church, Burdekin Ave, Amaroo.
With such a large and growing parish there may be up to three families presenting children at each celebration.
Please phone the parish office on 6242 9622 to book your child's baptism.

Preparation for Baptism

Instruction Session:

If you are new to the parish or you are presenting your first child for Baptism you are asked to attend an Instruction Session held monthly in the Parish Center after the 9:30am Mass. These sessions are generally held on the last Sunday of the month however please refer the parish newsletter (available from the home page) for up to date information. This is an opportunity for us to meet you and your new baby prior to the baptism.

About the Ceremony

Photos and videos may be taken during the ceremony.

Baptismal candle: One will be supplied, however, parents may provide their own if they wish.

Baptismal Robe: The white robe is used in baptism as a symbol of being clothed in Christ. You may already have one of these however if you do not we will provide a white baptismal garment (similar to a white bib). Please return this after the ceremony.

Donation: Please note it is customary to provide a donation to cover church costs for the ceremony. About $60 is normal, however wherever there is financial hardship this may be waivered.

Presentation of your child prior to Baptism

As baptism is the first step on your child's faith journey and initiation into the Christian Community, it is important that it is celebrated within the community. To enable you, as the child's parents, to experience the support of the community and for the community to meet their new member, we ask that parents bring their child to one of the Parish Masses on either the 2nd or last weekend of the month leading up to the Baptism. During this Mass, your child will be presented to the community in a simple ceremony.
